Phoenix Architect Jack Debartolo was the winner of the 2017 Merit Award Friday night at the AIA AZ Design Awards for another outstanding Johnston Properties project completed by Caliente Construction, Barnone (http://www.debartoloarchitects.com/work/barnone).
This project consisted of converting the developer’s existing, family-owned, 1950s Quonset Hut into a unique multi-use facility in Agritopia (Gilbert, AZ). Structural repairs to the existing quonset hut’s “bones”, as well as the addition of two new metal buildings and outfitting each individual tenant space created eight inimitable tenant spaces that now house a variety of dining and shopping ventures that are owned by local craftsmen and entrepreneurs – including a brewery, machine-shop, gun workshop and restaurants. The developer’s concept of combining the re-use of existing features of the space while also bringing in new structures made this project a real one-of-a-kind.
“Caliente is thrilled to work with some of the Valley’s best architects on some of the most intricate projects” says Senior Project Manager Jeff Schaeffer. “And Joe Johnston of Johnston Properties never disappoints with his visionary ideas.”
