The construction industry has designated Women in Construction Week as a time to recognize, inspire, and congratulate hardworking, talented women in a typically male-dominated field. We at Caliente Construction are active supporters of this mission. We want to take a moment to appreciate, inspire, and congratulate the women making a difference in the A/E/C industry. In honor of Women in Construction Week, we wanted to hear personal experiences from women at our company.
Meet Karen Lopez, Senior Project Accountant
In 2010, Karen joined Caliente as a Project Coordinator. Shortly after joining us, we learned about her passion for accounting, and provided her with an opportunity to work in a Project Accountant role. Since then, Karen has earned the title of Senior Project Accountant and plans to remain with Caliente until retirement.

What has been the most memorable moment in your career?
My greatest moments have always been meeting or, better yet, beating deadlines and receiving appreciation from the client.
What are the advantages of being a woman in construction?
A supportive community of female colleagues and being treated equally within a male-dominated industry.
What advice would you give to a young woman entering the industry?
Obtain a construction degree and gain hands-on knowledge by interning while going to school.
What is the best part of your job?
Working with a great team of awesome personalities and knowledgeable individuals that help mentor each other to build great things.
How do you think construction can attract more female candidates?
To ensure women know the construction industry thrives with exceptional communication, organizational skills, and integrity.
What makes you proud of working at Caliente Construction?
Being a woman-owned company that has flourished through many tough economic years, including a pandemic, and has a top-notch management team.
What do you think is the most important change happening in the construction industry?
Technology.
