Caliente Construction was founded in 1991 by Arizona natives, Tom and Lorraine Bergman. Over the next decade the company steadily grew, becoming an established presence and developing a strong and diverse customer base throughout the Valley’s private and public business community. Caliente’s current President Lorraine Bergman remained involved with the company while she continued her own full time career at Arizona Public Service Company. In 2000 Lorraine joined Caliente on a full time basis to assist her husband Tom in building the company’s infrastructure and preparing for future growth.
Sadly, in February of 2004 Tom was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer. He was given only a few short weeks to live, but through his determination and desire to live; we were blessed with his presence until he passed away on February 12, 2005. The loss of Caliente’s founder was a tremendous blow to the company. Tom Bergman was an inspirational leader, well-known and highly respected throughout the community and the construction industry. During the year he was in treatment, Caliente experienced a loss of clients, employees and revenue. But out of tragedy and loss came determination and perseverance. Despite her personal grief, Lorraine and several employees who had the courage to remain with the company during Tom’s illness took on the task of rebuilding the company. This was no easy undertaking, as many clients and employees lost confidence in the company believing it would not survive without Tom. Determined to save the company and never wavering from the company’s values and motto of “building relationships”, Lorraine surrounded herself with great people, won back old clients and developed new contacts.
Today Caliente is one of the largest woman-owned businesses in Arizona and ranks in the top 50 of all Arizona general contractors. The majority of our business is generated from past clients and business associates and is built on a reputation of integrity, superior performance and the personal touch of a family owned business.
